My dog vomited once; do I need to come to the emergency room?

As a general rule, it is always safest to have you pet evaluated by a veterinarian when he experiences any vomiting. However, if your dog is otherwise healthy and continues to be bright and alert despite one episode of vomiting, it is probably ok to monitor him at home. If your pet vomits, do not offer any water for about 4 hours and do not offer any food for at least 8 hours. After that time offer just small amounts of food and water to try to ensure that vomiting does not continue. If your pet continues to vomit, refuses to eat, or is lethargic he should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible.
