Dr. Laurie Bergman grew up in Northern New Jersey. She attended college at Columbia University and Veterinary School at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Bergman lived on Cape Cod for 7 years, where she worked in small animal practice and completed an internship in Wildlife Medicine at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, before going to work for the oldest veterinary behavior practice in New England. After 2 years in private behavior practice, she entered a residency in Behavior at the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, becoming Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists in 2003. Dr. Bergman remained in California as the Behavior Service Coordinator for the University of California Veterinary Medical Center-San Diego, where in addition to treating behavior problems in companion dogs, cats and birds, she consulted for local zoos and animal shelters, was involved in a variety of clinical research projects and trained residents and veterinary students.
Dr. Bergman has been active in canine agility. Her Australian Terrier, Wilbur, has several titles. She has also trained several other species, such as birds and cats, none of whom have been as difficult to train as her two small children.
